Undressed
for success
Four
Manchester Metropolitan students are hoping to be an ‘Undressed’
success with their new venture.
Fashion buying students Charlotte Kearney, Matthew Moxham, Anna Temple
and Sarah Martin have set up their own underwear company.
Undressed was formed in September last year as part of an assignment
for their course and began full trading in January.
They produce ‘slogan’ printed vest and knickers sets for
women emblazoned with “strong empowering messages” such
as ‘Venus favours the bold’; ‘History is her story
too’ and ‘Being a lady is an attitude’.
Matthew Moxham, spokesperson for Undressed said; “We wanted to
do something unique and make a difference with our project.”
“We’ve designed something that we know appeals to girls
with strong opinions - whether worn as underwear or outerwear, everyone
should get Undressed and raise money for a worthy cause.”
The students have pledged to donate 10% of all the profit made to Refuge,
the charity for female victims of domestic violence.
“Nobody should have to live with violence yet one woman in four
will experience domestic violence at some point in her life. Refuge
supports women and their children every day, to keep them safe and help
them regain control of their lives,” explained Moxham.
Managing director Charlotte Kearney (pictured above) is hoping to make
it a double success by setting up a successful business and being crowned
Miss Manchester 2008 next month. The 21-year-old, who is sponsored by
her company, is up against 39 other women in the final this month.
The students have embarked on a massive publicity push to announce the
range. Kearney stepped in to model the range for the brands first photo-shoot
aided by Manchester based stylist to the stars Sian Lloyd Jones and
fashion photographer, Tony Ward.
Other promotional activities have included models walking around central
Manchester in nothing but their underwear handing out lollipops, kisses
and advice to encourage the city’s men to treat their girlfriends
to Undressed goodies for Valentines Day, and a search for Manchester’s
own Carrie Bradshaw.
Moxham added, “All in all, [it is] a fantastic experience, the
process of developing and delivering the Undressed brand has given all
of us involved an invaluable insight into the world of business, has
thrown up some interesting challenges and given each of us a fantastic
set of skills to take to a potential employer upon graduation.”
