Cambridge
best for student radio
CURI350,
the Cambridge student radio station was crowned the best student station
in the country at the Student Radio Awards (SRAs) in November.
The station, run independently by Cambridge University and Anglia Ruskin
University students was awarded the SRA Gold for Best station for the
first time in its 29 year history.
Presenter Katherine Godfrey also won the SRA Gold for Best Female whilst
the station's breakfast team received a Bronze SRA in the Best Entertainment
category.
As a result of this awards success, CUR1350 will soon grace national
airwaves in a two-hour show for Radio 1, demonstrating the skills that
have made them the best choice for student radio in the UK.
The ceremony itself was hosted by Radio 1 DJs Scott Mills and Edith
Bowman with further appearances from the awards chairman Jo Whiley and
DJs from XFM, 6music and Capital. Nominees were also treated to a tour
of the GCap buildings and studios, and throughout were given the opportunity
to network with the most important people in the industry.
Competition on the awards night was intense, with a raft of awards going
to Warwick and Leeds universities’ radio stations.
