Based on the true story of the last Jews left in Afghanistan, this solid and exceptionally well written drama examines the fractious relationship of an odd couple left seething at each other in an isolation brought about by the savage Taliban regime.

The performances are good, if a little heavy handed in moments, and the direction is accomplished. The strength of the show lies in a superb script, subtly highlighting the ongoing plight of invisible Jewish communities, and deals with the subject matter with witty and clever dialogue.

Its intelligence makes up for the strange emotional vacuum at the heart of the piece that ultimately diminishes one’s capacity for empathy with the characters.
