Meeting Joe Strummer
Brighton Theatre Events and Komedia Entertainment
Gilded Balloon, Teviot, 13.15, Aug 6-27 (Not 14, 21)
****
Being somewhat fond of the Clash I was rather looking forward to this show and in all honesty it surpassed expectations.

This passionate comedy takes you on a journey chronicling Joe Strummer’s celebrated career through the eyes and slightly drug addled memories of two obsessive Clash fans. Their idolisation of Strummer rules their lives and almost ruins their friendship.

Nothing is more amusing than watching two middle aged men pogo and strum air guitars particularly whilst trying to imitate Strummer’s trademark sneer.

Hilarious and touching, this show is an absolute must for Clash fans. It is a worthy tribute to one of the greatest legends of the punk era and beyond. Remember to break out your bullshit detectors.
