The Girl
Who Cried ‘Nam
Bristol Spotlights
Sweet Grassmarket, Aug 4- 13
**
Ah,
student living; the excesses of day-time TV, the last minute all night
revision sessions, the lazy, drunken housemates.
The banter throughout this show seems to come from an authentic place
and was clearly recognised by the student audience. Hopefully they didn’t
identify with the plot as ultimately it portrays students as dumb and
crafty and superficial.
Bone idle Eve invents a way to avoid an impending exam by faking a mental
illness, a premise that does come off a little better than it sounds.
Although the dialogue crackles with a few laugh-out loud moments, it’s
very much a skin to a show that has nothing below the surface.
You can see the appeal to an audience at the SU but not much beyond
that..
