Taking the hugely successful formula of An Evening with Gary Lineker, a group of holidaymakers watching England’s fateful 1990 World Cup Semi Final, Chris England takes us to the clubhouse of a provincial rugby club to view the proceedings when the Rugby World Cup was won. This is fast paced accessible theatre referencing actual events on the television that many people will remember vividly.

The drama and complications of the characters lives are spun amongst the unseen onscreen tension of the match. There’s impassioned rivalry between the Aussies and the Poms, both on the pitch and in the clubhouse. As well as the coveted World Cup trophy, the chairmanship of the Rugby Club is also at stake, and many a foul is played.

This is a great sequel to An Evening with Gary Lineker and author England tightens the screws even further this time. With the sporting action as pacemaker, everybody has a drama of their own outside of the game, and the pressure rises as every detail unfolds – you don’t need to be a sports fan to enjoy this brilliant comedy drama. There’s something for everyone including great sight gags and superb comedy beer work.
You’ll get a great kick out of this, Clive Woodward would.
