I wouldn’t
consider myself a particularly complicated fellow; I’m very fond
of a bit of visual humour with a frankfurter or a banana, so I was very
pleased to see some here. Equally, any show featuring characters called
Dick and Fanny rapidly begins to score points in my book! This jolly
romp through the world of whodunnits kicks off with gusto and offers
little respite.
As the elderly father figure of a well-to-do family prepares to alter
his will, the various potential benefactors/culprits gather for the
inevitable clash of personalities. The cast launch into song wasting
no time in introducing the characters… all the usual suspects.
The show covers well trodden ground referencing much that has come before
it and doesn’t let the audience down with the prerequisite twists
and turns expected of the genre. This capable bunch of students from
Queen Margaret’s University College entertain well with their
pantomime portrayals and there’s plenty of japery to be had. The
show builds frenetically to the inevitable climax, barely pausing for
breath, and a notable highlight is the short and enigmatic appearance
of the family dog.
Full of energy and enthusiasm, this show is a killer!
