Yppah
You are beautiful at all times
Popular
music often mirrors the frantic nature of our modern lives; the
fear, complexities and down right stress of our non-stop existence.
Pieces of art that possess a subtler nature should be welcomed.
You are beautiful at all times the debut work from Joe
Corrales under his new Yppah moniker (pronounced Yippah), is one
such piece of art and is a lovingly painted, intricate collection
of soundscapes.
Yppah fuses all the influences of his musical heritage, the majority
of the tracks being underpinned by the swaying reassurance of
classic folk sounds. However, It is the addition of his other
influences that makes this release something to shout about.
Distorted, yet subdued, guitars are shoved through delays, keyboards
and drum loops from real sampled drums marrying the expansiveness
of archetypal ‘shoegazing’ noise with disjointed blip-hop
rhythms. These are big tunes made to sound relaxing, modest and
small.
These sounds will give you a warm feeling in side brought about
by the use of classic analogue production filtered through a digital
sieve.
This is a tranquil recording, that because of its catchy, insistent
hooks is at times a ‘dance’ record but overall is
something of a different nature - it is a real gem of an album
and is most definitely beautiful at all times.
