Wolfmother
Wolfmother
It
may be lazy journalism to simply compare bands to other bands
in a review, but when it comes to describing the music of power-rock
trio Wolfmother it becomes almost impossible not too.
Put in simple terms Wolfmother ‘rock’ like all the
greats already have - take a fusion of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath,
Cream and King Crimson and you have the sound of this Aussie-band’s
self-titled debut release.
Wolfmother doesn’t simply take you back to the halcyon days
of 70s’ rock however, as it manages to infuse a distinctly
‘now and happening’ energy to the effortless classic
rock flow.
‘Colossal’, whilst being a track of huge riffs and
pounding rock drums, is more akin to the stoner-sounds of Kyuss
than the rest of the albums 70s’ posturing.
‘Joker & The Thief’ has a stripped-down, White
Stripes approach to rock song-structure but all the time has a
magnificently grand pomposity that is rarely heard in modern rock.
Wolfmother have taken the classic formulae but have freshened
up the sound leaving all the deadweight behind.
Get Wolfmother and rock out - it’s a pretty simple concept.
