Mothertrucker
Electric Blacksmith
The
second mini-album from Birmingham ‘post-stoner-metal-instrumentalists’
MotherTrucker continues the neuron-crushing, riff-tastic sound
of their debut.
The Trucker boys have dropped some of the subtler post-rock ambience
utilised to punctuate the heavier aspects of their full-on instru-METAL
assault.
Electric Blacksmith is all-in-all a sludgier, darker
affair moving further into the realms of stoner-rock and doom.
The huge, killer riffs displayed on the debut underpin each and
every track as guitarists Charlie Butler and Chris Scrivens lay
down impressive walls of noise.
It is in their aural formula that MotherTrucker make a brave move
on only their second release, discarding their previously psychedelic
time-changes in favour of repetition and a slow, crawling pace
that verges on frustrating, but because of the sheer rock-power,
ultimately satisfies.
The band, with new record-label and producer Carl Harris (Mistress,
Bullgator) in tow have lost some of the immediacy of their DIY
debut as the rough edges are smoothed and a professional crispness
is introduced.
What Electric Blacksmith shows is a band still finding
their feet and with time have the potential to release a body
of epic, crushing metal that can find its own unique place in
the genre.
