Les
Fauves
N.A.L.T 1 - A Fast Introduction
***
Continental
buzz-band Les Fauves have caused quite a stir in their home-land
with grungy, debut single ‘Our Dildo Can Change Your Life’
and are ready to unleash a debut full-lengther.
Now, let’s get this straight, Les Fauves like our Anglo-American
rock sounds…like…a lot, their album is crammed full
of appropriated sounds from the history of rock n roll.
Opener ‘Please, Please, Please’ is a Black Rebel
Motorcycle Club outtake, ‘Novara’ takes a central
guitar-line directly from XTC’s ‘Making Plans for
Nigel’.
Despite being essentially stolen the sounds are expertly used
and form an enjoyable selection of new wave tunes.
Some of it is downright funky, post-punk - it’s simply
not possible to not tap your feet to the raucous ‘Fava
Go Go Dancer’, it is a brilliant slice of danceable indie
goodness.
Les Fauves have taken the (commercial) decision to sing in English
which makes for a bevy of lyrical absurdity.
All in all you will have heard this all before, but if indie
if new wave, punk and indie is your bag then it is well worth
taking a punt on this introduction to one of Italian’s
hot new bands.
