Get
Loaded In The Park
Get
Loaded’s third year saw it capitalise on previous efforts,
bringing an exciting line-up of varied acts to a manky old field
in south London.
Four stages, including a dance tent hosted by Bugged Out! And
a seemingly ‘miscellaneous’ tent with comedy, bands
and Howard Marks hosted by Guilty Pleasures, made for a busy,
manic day, headlined by Babyshambles
on their only UK date this summer.
The main stage hosted a superb array of artists, with several
must-see rare appearances from house legend Adamski,
hip-hop kings De La Soul
and punk pioneers, the mighty Buzzcocks,
punctuated with DJ sets from the likes of the Scratch
Perverts and the
Cuban Brothers. The decks also saw action from
unlikely superstar DJs Bez
of the Happy Mondays and Peter Hook
of New Order. Playing a special ‘Get Loaded’ set was
Drum n Bass genius Goldie,
who finished his mix on the seminal ‘Inner City Life’,
before handing the stage over to….Graham
Coxon! Although on paper this would seem like
the musical equivalent of changing gears without a clutch, Get
Loaded’s policy of putting disparate artists back-to-back
really works and means that the audience get a constant stream
of acts to watch, just by putting a known DJ on between the bands.
Away from the main stage highlights included the ever fantastic
Misty’s Big Adventure who finished on their forthcoming
single about the perils of rock & roll decadence, out in October.
Add to this the double whammy of the
Chalets followed by the
Pipettes on the Other stage made up for the (apparent)
no-show by 65daysofstatic.
Sorry if you were there guys, but the crew said you weren’t.
I would have loved to have seen you!
Altogether, Get Loaded is going from strength to strength, and
it’s a really great option for bank holiday weekend. It’s
just down to personal opinion whether you think that a finish
time of 9pm is a good or bad thing….
