Niceties
Cambridge Footlights
Pleasance Dome, Aug 3-28 (not 16)
***
Like marriage and religion, the Footlights is a hallowed
institution beloved by the middle classes and the terminally Ya!, so
it was difficult not to feel a little prickle of apprehension that this
might be a tedious old bore. How prejudiced am I?
A delightfully talented quintet of baby-faced performers present a genuinely
funny show.
Sketch shows by their nature can be hit and miss, and this is no exception,
but the ‘Bloggers’ sketch and the ‘Edwardian photograph’
are worth the ticket price alone.
The presentation is predictably slick for a company of such esteem,
but occasionally you catch the performers trying not to corpse which
hampers another decent show.
