The
Bird Flu Diaries
Olivia Poulet and Sarah Solemani
Pleasance Dome, August 5-27 (not 25, 26)
*****
The nation battles for a coveted place in a Bird Flu
safe bunker alongside Tony Blair, submitting their pleas by video diary.
Slipping seamlessly between finely carved characters on stage and video,
these two charming, talented and rather tasty ladies offer a true ‘bird’s’
eye view of the potentially impending crisis.
Yes, the jokes and characters are somewhat female centric, and while
this reviewer finds himself often aggravated by such things, the inherent
femininity of the material is nothing but appealing.
The timing is expertly crafted and you’ll find some of the most
naturalistic stage acting you’re ever likely to see. The writing
too, self-penned by the performers, is finely tuned and ticks all the
boxes in seasoned text book fashion.
This topical show offers many laughs and will leave you feeling strangely
enlightened about the British psyche and most certainly pleasured.
No strain at all… H5N1-derful!
